The England squad has assembled in Leeds for the five-day RBS 6 Nations training camp among the nine uncapped players is a hulking No.8 unfamiliar to the elite English game, Scarlets’ Ben Morgan.

After spending his formative rugby years at Dursley Rugby Club near Bristol, the 22-year-old retained his link to the grassroots game with Cinderford and Merthyr before joining the Welsh region in June 2009.

Despite having only met many of his new England teammates for the first time today, Morgan feels the squad have shown they share the same mentality in the short time they have been together.

He said: "I’m really excited for this week’s training. I think everyone has got the same mentality of being excited to take things on."

Trophies and accolades have come thick and fast in Morgan’s young career, having helped Gloucestershire to win the U20 County Championship in 2008 and 2009 and then Llanelli to lift the SWALEC Cup in 2010 when he was the club’s young player of the year.

In 2011, he became the Scarlets Young Player of the Year and also won the supporters’ vote for a similar award.

Morgan played with fellow England EPS newcomer Charlie Sharples in the Under 14 and Under 15 sides at Dursley and he says having the Gloucester Rugby wing around is helping him settle in to the new environment.

Adding that he’s been welcomed by the established players in the group, he said: "I only really know Charlie and Henry Trinder and it’s only from playing against a few of the other players that I know them.

"Everyone is sound and easy to get on with. It’s been a really friendly start."
